Friday Finds: A New Turn in the South

Images from A New Turn in the South
Last Christmas I bought this cookbook for my best friend. She was living in Spain at the time, and I thought she would enjoy a piece of the South in her kitchen. I was taken back at how beautiful this cookbook is. It's quirky with it's hand-written titles and illustrations, just like the chef himself, Hugh Acheson. Plus the recipes sound amazing, like the boiled peanut hummus(!), not your mama's brussels sprouts, flash cooked okra with almonds, and the list goes on.

Hugh lives in Athens, GA but is originally from Canada. He has embraced Southern cuisine and now owns several terrific restaurants in Atlanta and Athens. My mom's side of the family is all from Georgia, so I have a specific place in my heart for this southern state. I love this quote from the book: "The South is a mosaic of many communities and when relationships are forged they last a long time." I couldn't agree more.

Happy Friday!
