Fancy trail mix

I'm not a Superbowl fan. I don't really have a favorite NFL team. I watch the Superbowl if we go out to a friend's house, and then I really only pay attention to the commercials and half-time entertainment. Last night we stayed in, I made this bread and Josh watched the game. I actually stole the tv for an hour to watch Downton Abbey. Anybody else addicted to that show?
I made a batch of this trail mix over the holidays and we loved it. It was the perfect amount of sweet and savory. It's like the grown-up version of the M&M and (too) salty peanut variety.
Make a batch of this trail mix if company's coming over or simply pack for a healthy snack. These ingredients are wholesome, nutrient dense, and good for you.

Spiced almonds
Adapted from The Cancer Fighting Kitchen
1 cup raw almonds
1/2 tsp olive oil
1/2 maple syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of sea salt
pinch of nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Spread out onto the baking sheet. Bake for 7-8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely.

Fancy trail mix: Mix 1 cup spiced almonds with 1/4 cup dried cherries, 1/3 cup pistachios, and 1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks.
